Stetind – South Pillar

Stetind (1391m) is Norway’s “National Mountain” and for a good reason. It is by far the most unique and beautiful peaks in the the country. The shape, location, and rock quality makes Stetind an irresistible mountain to climb on. Beautiful sweeping granite ridges rising straight from the sea. It was first climbed in 1910 by the same team that first ascended Svolværgeita. It’s easiest route «Normalruta» is rated 5.6 and is a popular, easy and fun trip for normally fit travelers. Stetind also offers long technical climbs such as the classic and amazing south pillar for the experienced climbers. The south Pillar of Stetind is rated 5.10. Stetind – South Pillar

If you’re looking for a long aesthetic rock climb with splitter cracks and solid granite look no further than the South Pillar of Stetind. Located at the head of Tysfjord, Stetind dominates the sky line with its unique shape and sharp lines rising straight up from the fjord. This climb will take you thru a magical coastal forest, then alpine lakes, too a clean granite pillar with sustuaned fun climbing all the way to the large flat summit!

Is this trip for me?

The South Pillar of Stetind is a physical demanding climb and requires climbers to be comfortable following Norwegian Grade 6 rock climbing. Please contact us if you have any questions on your skill level.

Practical information:

Itinerary

We meet in the early morning at the camping/parking which is at the foot of the mountain. Starting time is dependent on weather, conditions, time of year, and number of climbers in the group. We average use 10 – 14 hrs total time including descent.

Time

Dates: June – September.
Trip Length: 1 day on Stetind but we recommend at least a day of climbing with your guide to warm up.

Skill Level

Comfortable following Norwegian Grade 6.

Equipment

We supply the Ropes, Rock Rack, and all technical equipment you need. We also include rock shoes, harness, and helmet in the price. You will carry your own small back pack on this route with clothes, water, food, snack and light shoes for the descent… We supply the rest.

1:1 = 6500 NOK

2:1 = 4500 NOK

Guiding Ratio: 2 climbers:1 guide is our maximum ratio
