Ski & Sail Svalbard

Ski mountaineering at a Latitude of 78º-79º North is the most exotic skiing trip possible. Spitsbergen is the only populated island in the Svalbard island group. This trip is in a truly remote and wild environment with wildlife and glaciated peaks that offer world class skiing. Traveling by sailboat among the majestic mountains and glaciers that rise from the sea, is an experience of a lifetime. We will sail to a new location every day in a stunning well equipped 73 foot sailing yacht. Traveling with skis and sails will get you close to nature, wildlife and untouched powder. The weather and conditions can change quickly. For this reason we only use UIAGM certified ski guides who have local knowledge of the area. This way we can offer a flexible program, with the best knowledge, as well as ensuring safety. Our captain (who has lived in Svalbard for 20 years) and his crew on the boat is trained by the RYA in England, have good local knowledge and extensive international experience to ensure a sailing trip you will not forget.

S/Y SKYDANCER – 73’ Polar Expedition Sailing Boat

S/Y SkyDancer is a tailored made boat of steel for arctic sailing and sleeps up to 8 guests in high comfort cabins. Divided on 3 double bunk bed cabins and one 4-bunk cabin in the front. She has 2 large saloons. On the upper deck saloon you can enjoy the views in comfortable sofas, and there is another nice saloon down below where we have meals together, hang out, drink coffee and watch movies. There is also two guest bathrooms and one shower. The central heating throughout the Ship makes it warm, dry and comfortable on board. It also provides us with unlimited heated water for showers. To make sure we have fresh water at all times there’s a large tank together with a 300 liters pr/hour water-maker. She is equipped with all navigation aids and safety equipment for sailing in high arctic waters. The Ship has a cruising speed of 8-9 knots. Large generators ensure plenty of power for your laptop, camera etc…

Area of Operation:

The Svalbard archipelago is one of the northernmost land-areas in the world. Most of this territory is still pristine, without roads or other signs of human intervention. Svalbard is situated between 74 and 81 degrees north, between 10 and 35 degrees east and consists of islands of various sizes. 60 percent of the landmass is covered in ice, and less than ten percent has any vegetation.

All tours will be planned according to where we get the best conditions for skiing along the wild west coast of Spitsbergen. Depending on objective and current weather conditions, we will start the day with a good breakfast, organize our equipment and get ready to chase the powder. The skiing, scenery, and wildlife of Svalbard is very unique. Due to the fact that we are visiting the land of the Polarbears, the guides always carry firearms with them.

We will use approx. 6-8 hours round trip on a average trip. The sun never really sets so we can adjust the schedule to any time of the day or night. We´ll enjoy the stunning views exploring the untouched mountains. When we are back down to the boat again, it’s time for dinner, chilling, fishing, sailing and planning the next day’s destination.
