Avalanche course – Level 1

NAG Level 1:  Decision Making, Hazard Evaluation, and Travel Techniques in Avalanche Terrain.

We focus on introducing you to avalanche hazard management.  Students will be well trained in how to prepare for and carry out a tour, decision making, and rescue techniques required for a self rescue in the backcountry.  We encourage and counsel our students on how to apply the skills presented in the course.  This course will provide participants with the following information:

  • Basic understanding of Avalanches.
  • Decision making and risk management in avalanche terrain.
  • Give instruction and excercises that are practical and useful in group travel within avalanche terrain.

Our Level 1 course is a 24 hours or more of course instruction.  This course is about 40% theoretical instruction inside and 60% practical instruction outside traveling in avalanche terrain.

Course Details

Price: Level 1: 1200 NOK x 3 days = 3600 NOK,

Dates: Level 1: Feb 10-12, Feb 17-19

Trip Length: Level 1: 3 days. Level 2: 5 days.

Skill Level: Level 1: no previous avalanche skills necessary. Must be able to travel on skis or snowshoes.

Guiding Ratio: 1:6 participants

Not Included in Price:
- personal ski/avalanche rescue equipment and clothing.
- transportation to/from course location.
